How this collection compares to the rest of the Medieval Floors line

The Valletta Collection delivers the same waterproof SPC core in a thinner 6.5mm plank with narrower 7-inch width — the value-priced choice for bedrooms and lighter-traffic rooms. The Super SPC Collection steps up to 10mm thickness with a 30-mil commercial wear layer and a thicker 2mm IXPE pad — engineered for high-traffic kitchens and light commercial use. Marseille sits in the middle: thicker than Valletta for better underfoot feel, lighter than Super SPC for a lower price-per-square-foot. Choose Marseille when the install will see normal residential traffic across multiple rooms and the budget needs to balance plank quality with project size.

Frequently asked questions

Why 8mm and not thinner?
8mm is the thickness threshold where SPC starts to feel substantial underfoot rather than thin. Below 8mm, the plank telegraphs subfloor irregularities more readily and the click-lock edges are more prone to cracking under impact. The 1.5mm IXPE pad attached to the underside of every Marseille plank dampens footfall noise and provides anti-microbial protection. The combination — 8mm SPC + 1.5mm pad — gives a 9.5mm total install thickness that feels closer to engineered hardwood than to laminate.
Is the 20-mil wear layer enough for kitchens and entryways?
Yes for typical residential use. 20-mil is the commercial-grade wear layer threshold — it handles pet claws, dropped dishes, dragged dining chairs, and heavy daily traffic in kitchens, hallways, and entryways. For light commercial spaces (small restaurants, retail showrooms, multi-family corridors) the Super SPC Collection’s 30-mil wear layer is the better choice. The Prime Urethane with Ceramic Bead Coating on top of the 20-mil layer adds scratch resistance and stain resistance beyond plain urethane finishes.
Can I install Marseille over an existing tile or vinyl floor?
Yes, in most cases. Marseille floats over most existing hard surfaces — tile, sheet vinyl, engineered hardwood, laminate — provided the existing floor is flat to within 3/16 inch over 10 feet. Tile grout lines wider than 1/4 inch may telegraph through over time and should be filled with self-leveling compound first. Carpet must be removed first; the SPC click-lock system requires a firm, flat substrate. Subfloor inspection is the most important step on any retrofit install — the plank performance is only as good as what sits under it.
Are the 9-inch wide planks harder to install than narrower formats?
Slightly. Wider planks demand a flatter subfloor — Medieval specifies 3/16 inch over 10 feet flatness, which is standard for SPC but more critical when the plank width is wider. The Uniclic glueless floating click is a forgiving system, so the click mechanics aren’t more difficult. Most homeowners can install Marseille as a DIY project; Kapriz can refer a licensed C-15 contractor if you prefer professional installation. For rooms wider than 25 feet or longer than 40 feet continuous, plan for a T-molding expansion break.
Can I see the Marseille Collection in person before ordering?
