Quick Answer
What is Calvados?
Calvados is a rigid, wood-look SPC floor in a light grey tone, with a heavy residential, light-commercial-ready wear layer for a low-maintenance, practical space.
Is it waterproof?
Yes — 100% waterproof. A splash at the sink or a dropped glass wipes up without harming Calvados when cleaned promptly; don't leave water standing. Indoor use only — outdoor installation is not approved.
How durable is it, and what traffic can it take?
This floor has a 20 mil wear layer — which works out to 0.50 mm — intended for heavy residential use and many light-commercial applications, so you get excellent protection against everyday scratches, scuffs, and abrasion. It sits at the thicker, harder-wearing end of the range.
Will it hold up to daily life?
Calvados has a 20 mil protective layer — thicker than the roughly 12-mil mid-tier and 6-mil entry-level LVT wear layers. That's the physical protective film above the print, sealed by finish.
What does the plank surface look like?
Each Calvados plank is heavy on character. You'll find clustered dark knots, open knot holes, and short splitting cracks tracking along an open cathedral grain, with strong board-to-board variation. This is far more grain character than the cleaner boards in its family, printed so the knots and fissures repeat cleanly across every 9-inch board.
Quiet enough upstairs or in a condo?
The 1.5mm IXPE anti-microbial acoustic layer damps the hollow "click" sound characteristic of floating floors. Calvados is quieter underfoot than LVT with a loose pad — both for the walker and for rooms below in multi-story homes.
Will this color work in my room?
Calvados reads as a clean, crisp grey. In this kitchen it sits under cool overhead light rather than direct sun, which keeps the tone even and true through the day and stops the greige undertone from warming up. In a room with strong south-facing daylight the same shade would lift and show a touch more of that greige warmth. Against white or off-white cabinetry it looks bright; against darker cabinets the knot character stands out more.

Overview
Calvados is a soft light grey warmed by a faint greige undertone, a cool-neutral floor that never tips cold. What sets Calvados apart from its cleaner grey siblings is character: the boards show clustered dark knots, open knot holes, and short splitting cracks that run with the grain, giving each 9-inch plank a rugged, lived-in surface. We photographed it in a modern transitional kitchen, where a waterfall quartz island, off-white cabinetry, and a grey tile backsplash let the knotted floor read as the room's texture. The wood-look print sits over a stone-polymer core, so it shrugs off dropped water and wipes clean after a spill. Calvados suits hardworking kitchens and entertaining spaces that want a pale floor with real grain to it.
A pale, knotted grey built for the spills and traffic of a real kitchen.
