Medieval Floors builds two distinct product categories under one brand: waterproof SPC vinyl plank flooring (three collections — Marseille, Super SPC, Valletta) and European White Oak engineered hardwood flooring (two collections — Architectural, Nouvelle). The SPC line is built for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and high-traffic family spaces where waterproof performance is required. The engineered hardwood line is built for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms where the authentic look, feel, and warmth of real wood matters more than waterproof rating. Every Medieval Floors product — across both categories — ships with FloorScore certification for indoor air quality and is backed by a structural warranty. All three SPC collections share a 100% waterproof Stone Polymer Composite core, a pre-attached IXPE anti-microbial acoustic underlayment, Prime Urethane with Ceramic Bead Coating surface protection, and FloorScore + GreenGuard Gold certifications. Both engineered collections share an 8-layer construction with a 4mm sawn White Oak top veneer, 5/8-inch total thickness, UV Lacquer finish, 4-sided micro-bevel, and Tongue & Groove profile installed glue-down or staple/nail (not floating). They differ in oak species, wood grade, plank dimensions, and surface texture.

What makes Medieval Floors different

Two complete product categories under one brand. Most flooring manufacturers specialize in either resilient (SPC, LVT, laminate) or hardwood — not both. Medieval Floors builds both at production quality, which means a whole-home install can mix waterproof SPC in wet areas (kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms) with engineered White Oak in living and bedroom areas while keeping the same brand-level quality control and warranty consistency.
SPC line — three wear-layer thicknesses across the collections. Valletta and Marseille ship with 20-mil commercial wear layer (handles pet claws and dropped dishes). Super SPC steps up to 30-mil — the threshold where SPC qualifies for light commercial use including restaurants, retail, and multi-family corridors.
SPC line — Prime Urethane with Ceramic Bead Coating across every collection. Ceramic bead surface protection adds scratch resistance and stain resistance beyond standard urethane finishes. The Valletta collection adds an Extra Anti-Stain Resistance Coating on top — useful in bathrooms, mudrooms, and entryways where staining agents are a concern.
SPC line — pre-attached IXPE anti-microbial acoustic pad. No second underlayment needed (and adding one voids the warranty). The IXPE pad dampens footfall noise and provides anti-microbial protection. Super SPC ships with a thicker 2mm pad for additional acoustic isolation.
Engineered hardwood line — 4mm sawn top veneer. 4mm is the threshold where the floor can be sanded and refinished multiple times during its lifespan — the same as solid hardwood. Most engineered hardwood ships with 1mm-2mm rotary-peeled veneers that can’t be refinished and have visible “barber-pole” grain repeats. Medieval’s 4mm sawn veneer reads as real plank-sawn White Oak.
Engineered hardwood line — 8-layer cross-banded plywood substrate. Multi-layer cross-banded construction (8 layers under the wear veneer) is more dimensionally stable than 3-layer or 5-layer engineered alternatives. Better resistance to seasonal humidity changes and cupping over radiant heat.

Choose by room and by what matters most. SPC is 100% waterproof — pick it for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, mudrooms, laundry rooms, and any space where standing water is a real risk. SPC is also the more pet-tolerant choice for households with large dogs or multiple pets. Engineered hardwood from the Architectural and Nouvelle collections is real White Oak with a 4mm sawn top veneer — pick it for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and home offices where the authentic look, feel, and warmth of real wood matters more than waterproof rating. The differences are thickness, wear layer, plank size, and price point. Valletta is the value collection — 6.5mm with a 20-mil wear layer, narrower 7-inch planks, lowest cost-per-square-foot. Marseille is the middle — 8mm with a 20-mil wear layer, wider 9-inch by 60-inch planks. Super SPC is the flagship — 10mm with a 30-mil commercial wear layer, the same 9-inch by 60-inch plank size, with a thicker 2mm IXPE pad for additional acoustic isolation. Is Medieval Floors good for kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes for the SPC line — every Medieval Floors SPC collection (Marseille, Super SPC, Valletta) is 100% waterproof and approved for installation in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and laundry rooms. The integrated SPC core means standing water on the surface won’t buckle the plank or leak through to the subfloor. Concrete subfloors require a 6-mil polyethylene moisture barrier underneath for the warranty to apply — that’s standard practice across the SPC industry. The engineered hardwood line (Architectural and Nouvelle) is real wood and is not waterproof — it’s not recommended for full bathrooms, laundry rooms, or below-grade installations. For households where staining agents are a frequent concern (mudrooms, kids’ bathrooms, pet feeding areas), the Valletta SPC collection adds an Extra Anti-Stain Resistance Coating on top of the standard ceramic bead surface.

Can I install Medieval Floors over radiant heat?

SPC line: yes, with limits. Maximum permitted floor surface temperature is 80°F (26.67°C) across all three SPC collections. Use only embedded electric mats or hydronic systems — surface-mounted electric heating mats are not approved. Use an in-floor temperature sensor. New concrete or gypcrete subfloors must cure for a minimum of four weeks before operating the radiant system. Heat must rise gradually after installation — no more than 5°F per hour during initial warm-up — to avoid thermal shock to the click-lock edges and the IXPE pad adhesion. Engineered hardwood line: hydronic systems only — electric radiant mats are not approved for the Architectural or Nouvelle collections. Damage from radiant heat exceeding spec is not covered under warranty for either line.

Can the engineered hardwood collections be sanded and refinished?

Yes. The 4mm sawn White Oak top veneer on the Architectural and Nouvelle collections is thick enough to be sanded and refinished multiple times during the floor’s lifespan — the same number of refinishes possible with solid hardwood. This is one of the meaningful differences between Medieval’s engineered line and lower-cost engineered hardwood that ships with 1mm-2mm rotary-peeled veneers (which can’t be refinished without sanding through to the plywood substrate). Plan on a professional sand-and-refinish every 15-25 years depending on traffic and finish wear.

What’s the Medieval Floors warranty?

SPC line: Lifetime Limited Residential across all three collections. Commercial coverage varies — 5-Year for Valletta, 10-Year for Marseille, 15-Year for Super SPC. Engineered hardwood line: Lifetime Structural Limited Warranty, 35-Year Residential Wear Limited Warranty, 5-Year Light Commercial Limited Warranty across both Architectural and Nouvelle. All Medieval Floors warranties are for the original end-user purchaser at a single-site installation only — non-transferable. Manufacturer install specifications must be followed (including the 6-mil polyethylene moisture barrier over concrete subfloors for SPC) for warranty coverage to apply.
