COREtec Pro Classics — 5mm Waterproof SPC Vinyl Plank

COREtec Pro Classics is the entry tier of the COREtec Pro line — a 5mm rigid SPC plank with a pre-attached cork pad and a 20-mil commercial-grade wear layer. The smooth embossed wood-look surface keeps the price down without compromising on the engineering platform shared across the entire COREtec Pro line. Fifteen colors anchor this collection in a 7-inch wide plank format with angle-tap click installation. Built for high-traffic family homes and light commercial spaces where waterproof performance and durability matter more than premium surface texturing.

15 colors in this collection. All COREtec Pro products are 100% waterproof, GREENGUARD Gold certified, FloorScore certified, and backed by a Limited Lifetime Residential / 15-year Heavy Commercial warranty.

Best for

Classics is the right COREtec Pro tier when you want commercial-grade durability without paying for premium surface texturing:

How this tier compares to the rest of the COREtec Pro line

Enhanced and Premium step up the surface realism — Enhanced adds enhanced beveled edges for stronger plank-to-plank definition, and Premium adds Embossed-in-Register texture that follows the printed grain exactly plus hand-painted enhanced bevels. The construction underneath is identical: same 20-mil wear layer, same attached cork pad, same warranty, same waterproof rating. Choose Classics when the smooth embossed wood-look surface is what you want and the budget is tight; choose Enhanced or Premium when surface realism justifies the price step.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Classics the same wear layer as Enhanced and Premium?
Shaw spec’d the entire COREtec Pro line with the same 20-mil commercial-grade wear layer to keep durability consistent across tiers. The price differences come from surface realism (smooth vs embossed-in-register vs painted bevels) and plank width (7-inch only on Classics vs 7-inch and 9-inch on Enhanced and Premium), not from how long the floor will last. A Classics install in a kitchen will perform identically to a Premium install in a kitchen.
Is the smooth embossed surface noticeably less realistic than EIR?
At normal walking distance — eight to ten feet — the difference between Classics and Premium is hard to spot. Up close, side-by-side, Premium reads as more realistic because the surface texture follows the printed grain exactly. For most rooms where the floor is something you walk on rather than examine, Classics looks indistinguishable from premium SPC at a fraction of the price. Premium pays off when the floor is part of the design statement (master bedrooms, open-plan great rooms with lots of natural light hitting the surface).
Does Classics work in a basement with concrete subfloor?
Yes — Classics is rated for above, on, and below grade installation, including direct over concrete. Test the slab moisture per ASTM F1869 (calcium chloride) or ASTM F2170 (in-situ probe) before installing, and lay a 6-mil polyethylene moisture barrier over the concrete per ASTM F710 — that’s standard SPC practice. For basements with prior water issues or persistent humidity above 80%, a manufacturer-approved liquid-applied moisture epoxy under the polyethylene adds a second layer of protection.
Can I install Classics myself?
Physically, yes — angle-tap click installs with a tapping block and a $150 toolkit. No adhesive required. Warranty-wise: Shaw allows DIY install but installation mistakes (skipped expansion gap, bad subfloor prep, missing moisture barrier on concrete) will void warranty coverage at the affected area. Material defects from the manufacturer remain covered. We don’t tell customers not to DIY — we tell them to read the install spec carefully, price out a licensed contractor for comparison, and decide based on comfort with the procedure rather than just the labor savings.
How much should I order for a 200 sq ft room?
For a 200 sq ft room, order roughly 220 sq ft (10% extra for cuts, waste, and attic stock). Classics typically ships at 28 sq ft per carton, so order 8 cartons (224 sq ft). Always round up to the next full carton. Keep any leftover cartons after install — even if you reorder the same SKU in three months, it’ll be a different manufacturing batch with subtle tone variation. Extras are insurance against future damage from leaks, furniture, or contractor work.
