What is Marseille?

Marseille is an engineered hardwood floor in a soft sandy tan tone, with a natural hardwood grain for a relaxed, homey feel.

Is it waterproof?

Marseille isn't waterproof — it's genuine wood. What its cross-layered plywood core buys you is stability: it resists the swelling and gapping that moisture causes in solid planks, which is why engineered goes where solid can't. Wipe spills promptly anyway.

Can it be refinished?

The veneer is what decides it — that thin layer of real wood is all a sander has to work with. At 4mm, Marseille can usually take two or three professional refinishes.

What does the plank surface look like?

Each Marseille plank centers on a pool of dark mineral burl figure that swirls toward the edges, with small scattered knots and a few hairline checks adding to the sense of a genuine, natural board. The wide face shows the swirling cathedral grain at full length, and the wire-brushed texture deepens the shadows in the figure. As real oak, every board draws its own pattern, so the burl never lands in the same place twice.

Will this color work in my room?

Marseille reads warmest in the bright, window-lit room it was shot in, where midday light pulls the honey and sand forward and lets the floor glow softly against soft-white walls. That same warmth means it never feels cold underfoot, even across a large open space. In a darker or north-facing room the tan would settle into a deeper caramel, holding its warmth where cooler floors can turn flat. It flatters creamy, tonal palettes and warm metals in particular.
