Quick Answer

What is Doheny?

Doheny is a genuine engineered hardwood floor built around a golden-tan color, with light natural character and a few small knots for a rich, inviting look.

Is it waterproof?

Engineered wood is not waterproof. Its layered core is designed to be more stable than solid hardwood in humid or below-grade spaces, subject to the manufacturer's moisture-testing and installation requirements, yet the wood surface can still be harmed by standing water, so treat it as water-resistant and clean spills quickly.

Can it be refinished?

How many times it can be refinished comes down to the real-wood veneer on top. With its 3mm layer, this floor can be professionally sanded and refinished over its life, subject to how much veneer remains and a flooring professional's assessment. Most of the time, though, a buff-and-recoat or a deep clean handles it — save the deeper sand-down for when the floor actually needs it.

What does the plank surface look like?

Up close, the plank runs mostly tight and straight, without a busy or repetitive figure. A soft oval cathedral shows up in a couple of boards, breaking the straight lines with a natural curve, and a few pin-sized mineral flecks sit low in the grain on some pieces. Knotting stays light -- expect the occasional small pin knot rather than heavy character marks, consistent with a Clear-to-Select grade board. The soft-brushed surface finish keeps the grain visible.

Will this color work in my room?

Doheny's warm golden-tan tone sits toward the lighter, brighter end of the beige range, so it tends to open your room up rather than weigh it down. In a sunlit space it reads soft and sandy; in a room that gets less daylight, the tone stays warm and doesn't read flat or gray. It works as a warm neutral base for both warm and cool color schemes in your space, since the undertone stays soft rather than pushing yellow or orange.

Overview

Doheny is cut at a wide 9-1/2 inch plank, wider than some of its same-family siblings, so a run of it lays down with fewer running seams and reads as a more continuous, unbroken field. The warm golden-tan surface sits on a soft beige base -- a Clear-to-Select grade American Oak engineered hardwood, so the surface reads clean without looking uniform. At this width the wider face shows off the grain and the soft-brushed finish texture more clearly than a narrow strip would, and the extra board coverage suits open living areas, dining rooms, and bedrooms where you want fewer seams underfoot. Best suited to someone who wants that quieter, wide-board rhythm underfoot -- if what you want instead is a busier, more line-driven rhythm, a narrower-format board within the collection fits that better.

A wide 9-1/2 inch board that keeps the seams quiet and lets the grain do the talking.

Frequently asked questions

Will it match my cabinets?
Doheny's warm golden-tan base pairs well with cream, warm white, and light-to-medium wood-tone cabinets in your kitchen or bath, since the tones sit close enough in warmth to read coordinated rather than competing. Against cooler gray or true-white cabinets, expect the floor's warmth to read as a deliberate contrast rather than a clash. Darker espresso or black cabinets also work well against this lighter tone, since the value contrast keeps both surfaces reading clearly.
