eTerra Red Series — 8mm Engineered eSPC Vinyl Plank

The eTerra Red Series is the middle tier of Gaia Floor’s eTerra line — an 8mm engineered eSPC plank that combines a rigid stone polymer core with balancing LVT layers above and below for extra dimensional stability. Twelve colors anchor this collection: eight 9-inch wide planks plus four herringbone colors in a 5.9-inch by 28.3-inch R-panel and L-panel format.

12 colors in this collection. All eTerra products are 100% waterproof, FloorScore certified, GreenGuard Gold certified, and backed by a 50-Year Residential / 10-Year Commercial Limited warranty.

How this tier compares to the rest of the eTerra line

If your project calls for a thinner, more accessible plank, the 6.5mm White Series covers the same ten color families at a lower per-square-foot price. If you want the absolute highest acoustic rating and the most realistic texture Gaia builds, step up to the 10mm Black Series. The Red Series is the right choice when you want the engineered eSPC core’s stability advantage and a wide 9-inch plank — or when you specifically want the herringbone format Gaia only offers in this tier.

Frequently asked questions

What is engineered eSPC and how is it different from regular SPC?

Engineered eSPC is a multi-layer construction that combines a rigid stone polymer composite core with balancing LVT sheets above and below. The balancing layers add dimensional stability across temperature and humidity swings, which reduces the risk of seasonal expansion gaps over wide-plank and long-plank installations. Regular SPC (like the White Series) uses a single-layer solid polymer core that is fully adequate for narrower planks.

How does herringbone installation differ from wide-plank installation?

Herringbone uses an R-panel and L-panel system with the Valinge 5G click. Installation starts at a 45-degree angle from the wall, and the first row is glued at the triangle starts for stability. Subsequent rows alternate R and L panels to build the chevron pattern. Allow extra time and order 8–10% over for waste — herringbone has more cuts than straight-lay.

Can I mix Red Series wide planks and herringbone in the same project?

Yes, although Gaia recommends installing them in separate rooms or zones rather than transitioning within a single space. Both formats share the same 8mm core, 20-mil wear layer, and color depth, so adjacent rooms with different formats still read as one continuous design palette.

Is the Red Series compatible with radiant heat?

Yes. Maximum floor surface temperature is 80°F (26.67°C). Use only embedded electric mats or hydronic systems — surface-mounted electric heating mats are not approved. New concrete or gypcrete subfloors must cure for a minimum of four weeks before the radiant system is turned on.

What is the Valinge 5G click system, and is it DIY-friendly?

Valinge 5G is a drop-down click with an integrated spring lock. The long edge angles in conventionally; the short end then drops into place rather than requiring a tap-down with a block. This is faster to install than older angle-angle systems and is well-suited to DIY installation, though Kapriz can refer a licensed flooring contractor if you prefer professional installation.
