Quick Answer

What is Lille?

Lille is a real-wood engineered hardwood floor in a soft sandy greige shade, with a natural hardwood grain for a rich, inviting look.

Is it waterproof?

Lille isn't waterproof — it's genuine wood. What its cross-layered plywood core buys you is stability: it resists the swelling and gapping that moisture causes in solid planks, which is why engineered goes where solid can't. Wipe spills promptly anyway.

Can it be refinished?

How many times it can be refinished comes down to the real-wood veneer on top. With its 4mm layer, this floor can usually take two or three professional refinishes.

What does the plank surface look like?

The plank surface is where Lille earns its personality. Most boards show a flowing cathedral figure with long straight runs, calm and wide, and then one will be marked by a prominent character knot with a dark center, a genuine feature rather than a repeated motif. Scattered pin knots and thin mineral streaks fill in around it. The wire-brushed texture follows the grain with a faint raked feel, and because every board is real oak the figure shifts from plank to plank, so laid together they read varied and natural.

Will this color work in my room?

Lille is a neutral, very-light greige, so the light in a room decides which way it leans. Under the soft midday daylight in this bedroom, against warm cream walls, it warms up and reads sandy and calm; in a cooler or north-facing space it would pull slightly grey and more contemporary. Either way it stays gentle and low-contrast, which is why it works as a restful backdrop rather than a floor that announces itself.

Overview

What gives Lille its character is the way one wide board can carry a single dark-centered character knot while the next runs long and clean. The grain is a flowing cathedral figure that sweeps in open, straight passages, with scattered pin knots and fine mineral streaks in between. The color sits as a pale greige with a warm sandy undertone, neutral enough to lean either warm or cool depending on what you set beside it. It is European Oak engineered hardwood with a wire-brushed surface and a clear UV-lacquer finish, built on a 4mm oak veneer over an engineered core. In the transitional bedroom we photographed, that mix of quiet color and occasional bold knot keeps a serene room from feeling flat: there is just enough natural incident to hold your eye without any busyness.

In a bedroom, Lille reads as a calm greige backdrop with just enough knot and grain to feel like real oak underfoot.

Frequently asked questions

What does it look like installed in a real room?
In the room we photographed, Lille runs beneath an upholstered bed dressed in white and cream, with a fur-topped bench at its foot, flanking nightstands, and table lamps throwing soft pools of light. A woven area rug sits over the boards, layered pillows and abstract wall art add quiet pattern, and a colorful abstract painting becomes the one real burst of color in the space. Against all that pale, textural furnishing the floor stays quietly in the background: the greige tone reads as a warm, settled base that lets the bedding and the artwork keep the focus.
Will it match my cabinets?
There are no upper cabinets in this bedroom, but the same logic applies to millwork. The trim here is crisp white, and Lille's warm greige sits comfortably beside it without the cool blue-grey clash you sometimes get from greyer floors. For a kitchen or built-ins, it pairs easily with white and off-white cabinetry, and its sandy undertone is a friendly match for pale natural-oak or warm-painted fronts. Because it is neutral rather than strongly warm or cool, you have room to go either direction with cabinet color.
