Quick Answer

What is Prime I?

Prime I is a genuine engineered hardwood floor in a light beige shade, with a clean grain, subtle figure, and slight natural variation for a versatile, uncluttered look.

Is it waterproof?

No — engineered hardwood is real wood on top, so it's water-resistant at best, not waterproof. Prime I tolerates humidity and moisture-prone rooms better than solid wood thanks to its stable core, but standing water and spills should still be wiped up promptly.

Can it be refinished?

Not every engineered floor is sandable — it comes down to how much real wood sits on top. Prime I carries a 4mm veneer, and can usually take two or three professional refinishes.

What does the plank surface look like?

The Prime I surface is calm and orderly: a flowing straight grain with a soft cathedral figure and long, even lines, scattered with faint mineral flecks across the middle of the board and quiet cathedral peaks above. Knotting is light, a stray pin knot rather than any bold character mark, so the overall read is smooth and unbroken. The wire-brushed texture is subtle here, felt more than seen, and because each plank is real oak, the figure varies gently down the run rather than repeating, which keeps a very calm floor from ever looking manufactured.

Will this color work in my room?

Prime I is a very-light warm beige, and it behaves best in exactly the soft, diffused daylight this living room has. In that even light it reads gentle and balanced, neither yellow-warm nor grey-cool, sitting quietly against pale greige walls. Give it stronger direct sun and the warmth comes forward; in cooler evening light it steadies toward a neutral greige. It is a tone chosen to stay in the background, so it shifts with the light without ever demanding attention.

Overview

Prime I comes in a genuinely large plank, 9-1/2 inches wide and 87 inches long in a full 3/4-inch thickness, and that scale is the first thing you notice: long, wide boards with few seams, exactly what a pared-back room wants. The color is a light beige held in a soft warm-greige balance, serene and minimal, warm enough to feel inviting but restrained enough to disappear into a quiet scheme. It is European Oak engineered hardwood, wire-brushed and finished in a clear UV lacquer over a 4mm oak veneer. We photographed it in a warm-minimalist living room, where the broad planks and the calm tone let the architecture and a few clean furnishings carry the space.

Prime I trades busy detail for scale: wide, long planks and a soft light-beige calm that lets a minimalist room breathe.

Frequently asked questions

What does it look like installed in a real room?
In the room we photographed, Prime I stretches beneath a long floating media console with a run of vertical slat paneling behind it, the kind of warm-minimalist setup where very little sits on the floor and every line counts. The console and trim are crisp white, the walls a pale greige, and the slat wall adds natural-oak warmth at eye level. With the big planks running unbroken across the space, the floor reads as one quiet, continuous plane, which is precisely what makes the console appear to float and the room feel calm and uncluttered.
Will it match my cabinets?
The built-ins here are crisp white, and Prime I sits against them cleanly: its soft warm-greige beige reads as a warm complement to white rather than a stark contrast, so the millwork looks fresh instead of clinical. The same holds for a kitchen, where white, off-white, and pale greige cabinets are the easiest partners and a natural-oak front picks up the floor's own warmth. Since the beige carries a touch of grey, it also handles a soft black or charcoal cabinet without the orange clash a warmer floor can create.
