Quick Answer
What is Ebano?
Ebano is a genuine engineered hardwood floor built around a deep near-black brown color, with small knots and balanced natural grain for a clean, easy-to-place look.
Is it waterproof?
Ebano is real wood, so the honest answer is water-resistant rather than waterproof. Its construction is designed to handle normal seasonal humidity better than solid planks, but standing water left to sit can still damage the wood veneer.
Can it be refinished?
A professional gauges refinishing by the wear layer — the real wood veneer, not the total plank height. With its 3mm layer, Ebano can be professionally sanded and refinished over its life, subject to how much veneer remains and a flooring professional's assessment. Most of the time, though, a buff-and-recoat or a deep clean handles it — save the deeper sand-down for when the floor actually needs it.
What does the plank surface look like?
Up close, Ebano's grain runs tight and straight in places, then breaks into a cathedral arch and ribbon-stripe figure where it shifts. Character is sparse and controlled, consistent with the A, B (Clear to Select) grade: a single small dark knot near one plank's edge, and a faint mineral fissure crossing another board -- not a heavily figured or rustic surface. The finish is a brushed, UV-cured oil texture, which lets the natural grain movement read clearly.
Will this color work in my room?
Ebano leans warm for a near-black brown, so it tends to stay a warm brown rather than drop to a cold, blue-black, even in dim light -- in most rooms it reads as a deep, warm brown rather than true ebony. A bright, well-lit room lets its depth show through; a dimmer room lets it settle into a flatter, moodier backdrop, which is the effect this shade is built for. Pair it with lighter or warm-white walls for contrast, or lean into an all-dark palette with black metal and other deep-brown accents for a monochrome room. Because it reads this dark, a little contrast elsewhere goes a long way -- you don't need much to keep the room feeling layered rather than heavy.

Overview
Held up to light, Ebano's near-black brown shows real warm depth instead of settling into a flat, characterless dark -- the kind of quiet grain and mineral variation the A, B (Clear to Select) grade is built to include. The Sapele (African Mahogany) planks run 7-1/2 inches wide, pairing a real-wood veneer with an 8-ply engineered core, finished with a brushed, UV-cured oil surface. A color this dark works best in rooms built to carry contrast -- a den, a formal dining room, a bedroom retreat -- rather than a small, low-light space where near-black can read heavier than intended. This floor suits someone who wants the character a Clear-to-Select grade brings -- if you're after a perfectly even, nearly knot-free surface, a straight Clear-grade board is the one to look at instead.
True near-black brown, warm rather than flat, with a ribbon-stripe figure running through the grain.
