Vellichor Galaxy Collection — 7.5mm Waterproof SPC

The Galaxy Collection is the middle tier of the Vellichor line — a 7.5mm VibranCore SPC plank with 1.5mm IXPE pre-attached pad totaling 9mm of under-plank assembly. Eight galaxy-named colors anchor this collection (Andromeda, Black Eye, Centaurus, Cygnus, Hoag’s, Milky Way, Pinwheel, Whirlpool) in a 9-inch by 60-inch plank format. Galaxy delivers more rigidity than Gemstone for projects that span uneven subfloors or need extra dimensional stability, while staying below the premium pricing of the Summit tier — built for primary living spaces where the floor needs to hide minor subfloor variation without paying for the thickest construction in the line.

8 colors in this collection. All Vellichor products are 100% waterproof, FloorScore certified, Greenguard Gold certified, Zero Formaldehyde, CARB Phase II compliant, and backed by a Lifetime Residential / 12-Year Light Commercial warranty.

Best for

The Galaxy Collection is built for primary living spaces where extra rigidity and underfoot density matter without stepping all the way up to the flagship tier:

Kitchens Family rooms Open-plan great rooms Bedrooms Hallways Light commercial Multi-level homes

How this tier compares to the rest of the Vellichor line

All three Vellichor tiers share the same VibranCore SPC core technology, the same 20-mil commercial-grade wear layer, the same 1.5mm IXPE pre-attached pad, and the same FloorScore + Greenguard Gold + Zero Formaldehyde + CARB Phase II certification profile. What changes between tiers is core thickness. Galaxy’s 7.5mm core sits in the middle of the line — thicker than Gemstone’s 6.5mm for better dimensional stability across uneven subfloors, but a step below Summit’s 8.5mm flagship. Choose Galaxy when the project is a primary living space (kitchen, family room, open-plan), when the subfloor has minor variation that 6.5mm would telegraph, or when you want the underfoot feel of a denser plank without paying flagship pricing. Step up to Summit when subfloor conditions are challenging, when underfoot density is part of what you’re paying for, or when you want the herringbone variant (Shasta Herringbone, Summit-only).

Frequently asked questions

Why pick 7.5mm over 6.5mm Gemstone?
Two reasons. First, dimensional stability — the extra millimeter of SPC core gives the plank more resistance to subfloor unevenness. If your subfloor has minor low spots or telegraphs through (common in older Bay Area homes with original 1960s slab work), 7.5mm hides that better than 6.5mm. Second, underfoot density — thicker SPC feels more solid when you walk on it, closer to engineered hardwood than thinner LVT. The functional waterproof performance and certifications are identical to Gemstone; what you’re paying for is rigidity and feel, not waterproof performance.
Is Galaxy approved for upper-floor installations in multi-level homes?
Yes. The pre-attached 1.5mm IXPE antimicrobial sound-deadening pad reduces impact noise transmission to the room below — important for upper-floor installations in multi-level homes, condos, and townhomes. Don’t add a second underlayment on top of the IXPE pad; doing so voids the warranty and disrupts the locking system’s tolerances. Floor-surface flatness should still be within 3/16-inch over 10 feet, which is standard for SPC across the industry.
Can Galaxy handle a busy Bay Area kitchen with kids and pets?
Yes — and the 20-mil commercial-grade wear layer is the reason. Wear layer thickness is what determines how well a floor handles dropped utensils, pet claws, and dragged chairs over time. Most residential SPC ships with 12-mil; Vellichor Galaxy ships with 20-mil, the same wear layer used on light commercial flooring. Combined with the 100% waterproof VibranCore core, that means standing water, spills, and steam-mop cleaning won’t compromise the floor — and surface scratches resist the everyday traffic of family kitchens, mudrooms, and hallways.
Is Galaxy harder to install than thinner SPC?
No. Galaxy uses the same angle-tap drop-down click system (Uniclic-style 5G) as the Gemstone and Summit tiers, so the click mechanics are identical across the Vellichor line. The 7.5mm core is actually slightly more forgiving on borderline subfloors than 6.5mm — it telegraphs minor variations less. Allow planks to acclimate 24-48 hours in a 65-85°F climate-controlled space before install, maintain expansion gaps per the manufacturer install guide, and Galaxy installs DIY-friendly with a tapping block. Kapriz can refer a licensed C-15 contractor if you prefer professional installation.
Can I see Galaxy in person before ordering?
Yes. Kapriz keeps Galaxy Collection samples on display at the Santa Clara showroom (891 Laurelwood Rd, Suite 101). Call (408) 753-3220 ahead to confirm which specific colors are physically on hand — we don’t permanently stock every color across the Vellichor line, and a quick call saves a wasted trip if the color you want needs to be ordered in for review. Cross-checking color in person before ordering a full project is especially worth it for primary living spaces where the floor will be the dominant visual element.
