Is it waterproof?
Yes — 100% waterproof. Kitchen reality — dropped pots, splashes, and daily mop-and-go cleaning — won't faze the planks, as long as you wipe spills up promptly and dry any standing water. Not approved for outdoor installation; test the subfloor for moisture before installing.
How durable is it, and what traffic can it take?
Northern Oak has a 12 mil wear layer — about 0.30 mm — recommended for everyday residential use across the busy areas of most homes, providing solid everyday scratch and scuff resistance. Thicker than the entry-level layers, without the cost of the heavy-duty ones.
Will it hold up to daily life?
Dog nails, cat claws, litter grit, water-bowl splash — Northern Oak's 12 mil wear layer and finish wipe clean easily and outlast a thinner LVT wear layer under everyday pet traffic. Claws can still leave light surface marks over time like on any hard floor, so trimmed nails and a rug in high-traffic zones help protect the finish.
What does the plank surface look like?
Up close, Northern Oak shows broad, open cathedral peaks arcing down the middle of each board, with open pores running visibly along the length for a natural, open grain read. Small dark knots scatter at a moderate spacing and thin dark mineral streaks thread between them, adding earthy character without tipping into a heavily distressed, rustic face. The printed figure shifts from one board to the next, so it keeps changing down the run instead of repeating.
Quiet enough upstairs or in a condo?
The 1.5mm solution EVA acoustic layer damps the hollow "click" sound characteristic of floating floors. Northern Oak is quieter underfoot than LVT with a loose pad — both for the walker and for rooms below in multi-story homes.
Will this color work in my room?
In bright daylight the grey in Northern Oak lifts, cooling the brown toward a soft smoked taupe and keeping a medium-dark floor from reading heavy.
