Quick Answer
What is Caramelo?
Caramelo is a genuine engineered hardwood floor built around a deep reddish brown color, with a refined, nearly knot-free surface and quiet grain for a smooth, welcoming look.
Is it waterproof?
Caramelo isn't waterproof — it's genuine wood. What its cross-layered plywood core buys you is stability: it resists the swelling and gapping that moisture causes in solid planks, which is often why engineered can be approved for locations solid wood isn't — check the manufacturer's installation requirements. Wipe spills promptly anyway.
Can it be refinished?
How many times it can be refinished comes down to the real-wood veneer on top. With its 3mm layer, this floor has enough veneer to support real, professional refinishing down the road. Day to day, a lighter touch — a buff-and-recoat or a deep clean — usually does the job; a flooring professional can confirm exactly how much sanding room this veneer leaves.
What does the plank surface look like?
Up close, each Caramelo Herringbone block shows tight, quiet straight grain through most of its length, broken by the collection's ribbon striping and a chatoyant shimmer that shifts as you change your angle to the light. Grading runs Clear to Select -- this board itself reads clean and quiet, though the grade does allow some blocks in the run to carry a few small knots or minor figure marks elsewhere, the range the grade allows, not a flaw. The UV-cured oil finish over a brushed texture keeps the grain reading naturally rather than under a heavy topcoat.
Will this color work in my room?
Caramelo reads as a deep, warm reddish-brown with burgundy undertones -- a dramatic, dark color rather than a quiet neutral. It's warm rather than cool, so it won't feel clinical the way a gray-toned dark floor can. It pairs best with warm neutrals, cream trim, or matte natural materials; against very pale, cool-toned walls it can read heavy, so give it some breathing room with lighter surfaces nearby.

Overview
Caramelo Herringbone is built to a Clear-to-Select grade over a real Sapele (African Mahogany) veneer, so each board shows an honest range of figure rather than one repeating pattern. Quiet, tight straight grain runs through most of a block, and on others the collection's ribbon striping and chatoyant shimmer surface as the light moves across the floor. That range comes from a real wood veneer over an 8-ply engineered core -- a printed surface can't do it, because it repeats. The color itself is a deep reddish-brown with warm burgundy undertones, dramatic rather than quiet, and here it's laid out in a herringbone weave of 4-3/4 in, 24 in blocks -- a denser, more architectural rhythm than the same color would give you in a straight-plank run. This works well in a room meant to make a statement -- a dining room, an entry, a primary bedroom -- where you want the floor pattern itself to be part of the design. A strong choice for someone who wants that genuine board-to-board variation and the added visual weight of a herringbone layout -- if you're after a calmer, more uniform read in the same color, the straight-plank format is the one to look at instead.
A dramatic reddish-brown Sapele herringbone with real board-to-board character -- no two blocks read quite the same.
