What is American Hornbeam?

American Hornbeam is a rigid, wood-look SPC floor in a warm greige tone, with a thick, high-traffic wear layer for a low-maintenance, practical finish.

Is it waterproof?

Yes — 100% waterproof. Stable against concrete-slab humidity and seasonal moisture variation, so American Hornbeam suits below-grade rooms once the slab passes a moisture test; clean up standing water promptly. Not approved for outdoor installation.

How durable is it, and what traffic can it take?

The surface of American Hornbeam is finished with a 20 mil wear layer — equal to about 0.51 mm — a good match for heavy residential use and many light-commercial applications, giving you excellent protection against everyday scratches, scuffs, and abrasion. In everyday use, it's a step up from the standard-duty wear layers.

Will it hold up to daily life?

At 20 mil, American Hornbeam's wear layer sits on the thicker end for residential flooring, which is why it stands up well to heavy day-to-day use. The 8mm construction gives it a solid, stable feel underfoot in busy rooms.

What does the plank surface look like?

Up close, each American Hornbeam plank shows a flowing cathedral figure with open, feathered arcs and looping peaks that travel board to board. Small knots sit ringed by fine radiating splits, with scattered pin knots and long feathered grain lines adding gentle character at a moderate spacing. The variation shifts just enough from one plank to the next that the field never looks stamped or repeated.

Quiet enough upstairs or in a condo?

The 1.5mm Bioguardian anti-bacterial EVA acoustic layer damps the hollow "click" sound characteristic of floating floors. American Hornbeam is quieter underfoot than LVT with a loose pad — both for the walker and for rooms below in multi-story homes.
