Opal — 5mm SPC Waterproof Flooring (GemCore Flooring)

Opal is a 5mm stone-composite SPC line built on a narrower 7″ × 48.6″ board, with a 20-mil wear layer under a Quartz Enhanced UV Coating and a pre-attached 1mm EVA pad. It clicks together as a floating floor. The 7-color range runs from light grey through light-medium brown, with one rustic multi-tone shade. Colors in the Opal collection

Opal’s 7 colors run from Arctic’s lighter, airier grey through Silverwood’s deeper grey-taupe and Natoma’s neutral beige to Hickory, Shasta, and Wheat’s warmer light-medium browns, with Perris as the collection’s rustic multi-tone option for a room that wants more visual texture.

Best uses for Opal

  • Narrower rooms or hallways — Opal’s 7″-wide board reads proportionate in a tighter space where a 9″-wide GemCore plank can feel oversized.
  • Kitchens & baths — the waterproof stone-composite core and pre-attached pad handle spills without extra underlayment.
  • Rooms wanting a cooler, grey-leaning palette — Arctic and Silverwood give Opal a grey option most of GemCore’s other SPC lines don’t carry.
  • Busy households with kids or pets — a dry-sweep-and-damp-mop routine keeps grit from abrading the wear layer.
  • Basements & below-grade rooms — the stone-composite core resists the humidity swings that affect solid wood; follow the install guide’s moisture-barrier requirement.

Choosing a color from the Opal collection

Arctic and Silverwood’s cooler grey tones pair cleanly with white or cool-toned cabinetry, while Hickory, Shasta, and Wheat’s warmer browns suit a room with wood-tone trim. Perris’s rustic multi-tone pattern is a good fit for a busy room where hiding everyday wear matters more than a uniform surface. Order a sample or visit our Santa Clara showroom to check the color under your own lighting before ordering full cartons — dye lots can shift slightly between production runs.

Frequently asked questions about the Opal collection

How is Opal’s board size different from GemCore’s other SPC lines?
Opal runs a 7″ × 48.6″ board, narrower than the 9″-wide planks on Crystal, Diamond, Jasper, and Sapphire — a better proportional fit for a smaller room or hallway.
Do I need a separate underlayment for Opal?
No — Opal ships with a 1mm EVA pad pre-attached to each plank, so no additional underlayment is required for a floating install.
Is Opal waterproof for a bathroom install?
Yes — Opal’s stone-composite core is waterproof, so it holds up to shower spray and sink splashes as long as standing water is wiped up rather than left to sit.
How much Opal do I need to order?
Each carton covers 21.29 sq ft. Measure your room and add a standard overage for cuts and waste before ordering.
