How durable is it — what's the AC rating?

AC stands for Abrasion Class: how well the clear wear layer resists scuffing and foot traffic over time. Holden has an AC4 rating, so its wear grade is measured, not guessed.

How realistic does the wood look?

The best realism comes from embossing that lines up with the print — texture that follows the printed grain, called embossed-in-register. Where a floor uses it, it reads far more like natural wood underfoot and to the eye.

Is it waterproof?

Holden is built on a waterproof core, so unlike standard laminate it stands up to everyday spills, damp mopping, and the humidity of kitchens, baths, and laundry rooms. Clean up standing water promptly and it will serve those rooms well for years.

Can it be refinished?

What does the plank surface look like?

Up close, Holden's cathedral figure opens into broad, sweeping loops that arc the length of each board, with faint mineral flecks drifting through the same lines and an occasional small knot breaking up the field. It's a wood-look laminate surface over an HDF core, and the AC4 finish embosses right along the printed grain, so what you feel underfoot follows the same loops your eye traces. Board to board those loops shift a little in width and curve, keeping a run of planks from reading like copies of the same board.

Quiet enough upstairs or in a condo?

A floating laminate always installs over an underlayment, which cushions footfall and takes the hollow click out of the floor, so it stays quieter underfoot — the difference is easiest to hear upstairs or in a condo. Holden uses the underlayment specified for it, whether that's pre-attached or a separate roll. Over a concrete slab, add a 6-mil poly moisture barrier under the floor as well — separate from the acoustic pad — since a floating laminate isn't itself a moisture barrier; that step protects the boards from slab humidity and doesn't change how quiet the floor feels.

Is it safe for indoor air?

Yes — Holden carries FloorScore certification, independently tested for low chemical emissions. That matters most for households with allergies, asthma, or young children.

Will this color work in my room?

Holden sits on the lighter, warmer side of GemCore's Medium Beige range, and midday light through the room's corner windows lifts that tan depth into an open, sun-washed warmth rather than a heavy tone.
